The Swiss E-ID: swiyu, trust infrastructure from H1 2027

After the popular vote of 28 September 2025, the Federal Office of Justice adjusted the timetable on 30 June 2026: the trust infrastructure (base and trust registry, issuer/verifier) is to go live in the first half of 2027; for the E-ID itself there is no date yet, for security reasons (defence against deepfakes and malware). Voluntary, free of charge, in the state-run swiyu app, with data held only on the device and selective disclosure as a core principle.
The stack
The trust infrastructure relies on open protocols: did:tdw/did:webvh for identifiers, OID4VCI/OID4VP for issuance and presentation, SD-JWT as the credential format. Mandact mandates use the same formats (SD-JWT VC, did:key for agents, did:web for the issuer); registration in the swiyu registry and proof of interoperability against the federal reference components are a separate work package, not a rebuild of the engine.
For companies
Organisations do not receive their own E-ID — they use the E-IDs of their customers, partners and employees; the organisational anchor remains the UID and the commercial register. The mandate schema reflects exactly this split (ident_anchor: ch_eid vs. org_uid).
The window
The public beta of the trust infrastructure has been running on the production components since March 2025. Whoever is registered and interoperable as issuer and verifier by go-live helps define the «agent mandate» credential type — a window that closes with the production start.
Key takeaway
swiyu turns «some account agreed» into a state-verified legal person. That is the difference between a login and a mandate.
